You might recognize the name from your cold medicine, but the Vicks plant was actually named after the scent of Vicks Vaporub, not the other way around. The unique number of terpenoids making up its menthol scent serves a similar purpose, too, easing congestion and headaches (people rub it against their nose or feet for sinus and sole relief). Although mildly toxic when ingested, this “fuzzy” (tomentosa) plant is known for its calming effect, and can be the perfect plant for people who need a rewarding, low-maintenance plant with a bit of a boon.
How to Care for Vicks
Native to Africa and Asia, this plant is actually extremely adaptable. In an indoor environment, it spreads easily and quickly and often need to be trimmed down for a more bushy appearance.
