String of Hearts, Pretty Pink (Ceropegia Woodii)

Are you looking for a plant that encapsulates your love life? The string of hearts might be a pretty classic plant to give as a gesture of love (hence the name), but I’ve never seen a plant reflect this representation quite so much. In some homes, this plant is considered quite easy to grow and propagate and love; in others, it shrivels up almost immediately. This plant thrives on light and love, though it struggles under overbearing (overwatering) care; it searches desperately for sunlight and warmth when it’s insufficient, but scorches into a string of chips when there is too much. If you grow them too close to your other pots, you might find new babies in another plant’s bed. However, in the case where you can find the balance, you can often see little signs of love pouring out the sides of the pot (which earned the plant its name "Ceropegia,” which roughly translates to “wax fountain”), a definite sign of the hard work it took to get here.

How to Care for String of Hearts?

This plant grows in several areas around South-Africa and Zimbabwe, making them a lover of warmth and of sunlight. That being said, it’s quite sensitive. Thus, it’s important to treat this plant with the right balance of sun (check for yellow or scorched leaves) and water (always let the soil dry out before watering, but make sure the leaves aren’t shriveling from drought). Once you figure out the balance of this plant, the main trouble may lie in simply untangling and managing its long flowing mane.
