This fun plant fits almost perfectly into its name. Epiphytic, it grows sideways on the sides of trees, eventually splitting into sprawling antler-like fronds the plant uses for reproductive purposes. Ironically, people have started putting them on mounts (including deer and antler mounts) in their homes to emulate its original habitat. It creates a creative alternative to the cottage vibe.

Care Guide

How to Care for Staghorn Fern (Platycerium Bifurcatum)?

Its watering schedule is what’s makes staghorns a bit tricky indoors; however, once this has been established, it’s pretty straightforward. Basically, this fern prefers to dry out between watering (blackening base is a sign of rot) but it loves humidity and suffers in drought (wilting tips is a sign of this). As it grows, many will mount the plant on wood with peat and sphagnum moss (secured with a fish line or wire) to emulate its environment.
