While the younger leaves of the Philodendron Gigas often resemble the Philodendron melanochrysum— with their velvety, rounded leaves and climbing instinct— the Gigas develops a softer green colour and balloons out into round (rather than heart-shaped or arrow-shaped leaves), which can grow up to four feet in the wild.

How to Care for Philodendron Gigas?

As mentioned, the melanochrysum can be a trickier plant to take care of. Without high humidity and structure (from a pole or beam), this plant will struggle to shoot new leaves, but in a condition with excess moisture (water drops) and still air, the plant can easily rot. However, once its initial conditions are set and the plant establishes itself in your home, the plant also starts to adapt to your patterns, making it a lot more forgiving and a lot more rewarding.
