The famous impossible-to-kill, low-light, neglect-loving plant that lives in the dark corner of every home decor enthusiast’s home. But did you know? Despite being considered a toxic member of the aroid family (in fact, once called a calladium), these plants have some history in traditional medicine for certain ulcers and inflammations. The green foliage of the Oblivion slowly darkens into an almost purple black as it ages due to anthocyanins, which act similarly to melanin, protecting the plant against sudden sun bursts.

Care Guide
How to Care for Oblivion Black ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)?
The ZZ plant originally grow along the tropical and subtropical forest floors of East Africa, which are known for fluctuations in rainfall and humidity. This likely led to the plant adapting to survive in dry spouts (through its thick bulbous rhizomes and highly water-retentive leaves) and lower light conditions. Because it likes to stay dry, the zz plant also enjoys smaller pots. However, it’s best to give the black varieties of this plant brighter light, to encourage the darker foliage for which it’s prized.
