Meyer lemons are considered one of the most popular ornamental lemon varieties in the Western horticultural world, but it’s actually an Asian hybrid between lemons and mandarin oranges. Likely, this not only contributes to the plant’s hardiness (withstanding lower temperatures), but also its incredible sweetness, relative to other lemon varieties. Though Meyer lemons are so sweet that even its peels are edible; despite this, its high acidity allows it to be used in antibacterial/antiseptic contexts (in cleaning products).

How to Grow and Care for Meyer Lemon, Citrus x Meyeri?
It’s said Meyer lemons started as a container plant in Asia, growing up to 10’ tall, but staying relatively manageable in size with some proper pruning. Like with many other citrus trees, this lemon is a heavy drinker/feeder. During the growing season (from spring to fall), it’s important to keep it well-fed, either with compost, fertilizers, or slow-release fertilizers. Kept in well-draining soil, it should be watered consistently (usually weekly), when the soil starts to dry out, to support its flowers and fruits.
