This beautiful plant—first identified in the consumer market in 1997 with corm-like bulbs and paper-thin leaves—was classified first as Alocasia ‘Hilo Beauty’ without binomial, before being given the name Caladium praetermissum (meaning ‘overlooked’) in 2009, but caladiums themselves were named after colocasias (keledos). While these categorical lines of plants and people and prior decision still befuddle us today, they remind us of an extremely beautiful, fragile trajectory forward.

Care Guide
How to Care for Alocasia Hilo Beauty, Caladium praetermissum?
Some theories suspect the Hilo Beauty of being a hybrid of the classic fancy-leaf caladium and the alocasia. And keeping the requirements for both of them in mind really helps in the care of this plant. The Hilo beauty prefers goes into dormancy when the temperature and light levels head down to levels that makes them uncomfortable, coming back only with constant, warm, and humid conditions supplemented by bright light.
