Epostoa nana, the dwarf old man cactus, isn’t just a cute woolly fluff from the desert. Similar to some lightly fuzzed plants (like Tillandsia), this cactus has developed trichomes to aid survival. However, unlike plants like Tillandsia, these trichomes are long tufts of hair that blanket the plant to protect it from sun and water loss in the day and the cold at night. Allegedly developed over millions of years, these trichomes give the plant the appearance of a tufty old man or nana (dwarf, in Latin), hobbling in the sand or dirt.

Care Guide
How to Grow and Care for Old Lady Cactus (Espostoa Nana)?
Like an alpaca, this plant is wrapped up in its own little environmental coat, able to withstand the fluctuations that come with living in the mountainous portions of Peru. In exchange, this plant doesn’t appreciate being coddled, preferring instead to sit by the window and dry out completely between each watering.
