Though it might be hard to believe this plant is a member of the daisy family (Asteraceae), the string of pearls has simply adapted to the heat of South Africa by reducing water loss through a limited (rounded) surface area and increasing its photosynthesis through a clear “window” it has on each of its leaves. With its new innovative survival strategy, it embraces the sun and crawls across every surface it’s able to grow, growing white tufts of geriatric hair (Senecio) as it goes.

Care Guide
How to Care for String of Pearls?
The most common discouraging encounter with these plants might be when all of its beads start to fall off its vine, making its survival feel more like a countdown than a rewarding experience. This is often remedied when you remember that these plants are made for hot deserts and enjoy bright light, dry weather, and open air. If the beads start to grow a bit leaner, the plant is letting you know it’s time for its next drink.
